# Reconcile bank transactions

> Match bank statement activity to Lynka accounting records, keep unmatched items visible, and understand what Bank Reconciliation Readiness means.

Bank reconciliation checks whether the activity reported by your bank agrees with the cash activity recorded in Accounting. It is a matching process, not a way to generate a fake cash balance from whatever the statement says.

## What you need

Reconciliation uses bank accounts, statements, statement lines, and accounting activity. If there are no imported or recorded statement lines, there is nothing meaningful to match.

That is why Lynka's **Bank Reconciliation Readiness** report can be unavailable instead of showing a made-up percentage when the workspace has no reconciliation data.

## Reconcile a line

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Bank Reconciliation">Go to **Accounting > Bank Reconciliation**. Access is protected by the bank reconciliation permission.</Step>
  <Step title="Choose the bank account or statement context">Work from the statement activity that needs to be matched.</Step>
  <Step title="Review candidate accounting entries">Compare amount, date, reference, and counterparty context with the ledger or payment record.</Step>
  <Step title="Match the correct records">Confirm the match only when the bank line and accounting entry represent the same movement.</Step>
  <Step title="Leave genuine exceptions visible">If no valid accounting record exists, keep the statement line unmatched or use the supported exception workflow rather than forcing an unrelated match.</Step>
</Steps>

## What reconciliation does not mean

A matched statement line does not create revenue. It confirms that a cash movement recorded in Accounting also appears at the bank.

A bank statement should not be used to overwrite Accounts Receivable, invoice status, supplier bills, or other source records without resolving those workflows.

## Common unmatched cases

* payment is still pending or uncleared
* bank date differs from accounting date
* bank fees or charges need their own accounting entry
* one bank line represents several accounting transactions
* a transaction was recorded in the wrong bank account
* the source payment or cash entry is missing

## Readiness versus reconciliation completion

Readiness asks whether the workspace has enough usable bank and accounting data to perform reconciliation. It is not the same thing as saying every line is reconciled.
